Did you know that the Fritos corn chip brand was invented in San Antonio in 1932? Elmer Doolin paid $100 for the recipe from a local cafe and started to sell the product throughout the city. In 1933, he moved to the city of Dallas where the business really flourished due to a better national distribution center. It eventually became a multi million dollar business and merged in 1961 with the Lay Company which made potato chips. The huge snack giant Frito-Lay is now headquarted in the Dallas suburb of Plano, but it had its beginnings in San Antonio.
